Technology for English Composition

In teaching writing, fluency can be increased through blogging, and experience with the thought required in formulating essays and stories. However, technology interferes to some degree because students rely upon Spell Check and Grammar Check to the extent that many cannot write well without a computer. I am interested in reading research about technological tools which can help in the teaching of writing, including instruction in mechanics and grammar.

  1. After learning that you have taught composition for a number of years, I'm not surprised that you're interested in looking for tools for composition! I agree that spell check and grammar check can be somewhat of a handicap. I wonder if those can be turned off for blogs (I think they can for Word, but I'm not positive). I think it's really evidence of your flexibility, though, that you are embracing the new technology that we're seeing and actively looking on your own to try to include it more into your classroom.
